Dear East Hamilton Seniors,
As many of you know, High School graduation is approaching at a very rapid pace. It is no surprise that we are all eager to finish our last year of highschool; to finally fulfill our credit hours and walk across the stage with a funny-looking hat resting on our heads. After four long years, we will finally have a day to acknowledge and appreciate all of the hard work that we have each put forward during out time here. We will each receive a diploma, a tiny piece of paper that symbolizes hours and hours of relentless studying, homework, stress, and dedication put towards something that we all care about. With that piece of paper, we have the ability to begin a new part of our lives, whether that involves college, the military, working, etc., we are all able to succeed and do whatever we choose to do. Hopefully. Seniors, it has come to the attention of the student body that a large percentage of The Class of 2018 currently will not graduate. Failing grades and depleted motivation has shockingly driven almost 20% of us into the danger of not receiving a diploma next month. Many of you have begun to lose the drive to work hard, and that lack of effort can come with severe consequences. Two seniors willingly came forward, choosing to disclose to the student body why they are in jeopardy of not graduating. One appeared to be unconcerned, explaining, “I just haven’t submitted my capstone portfolio.” When asked why they hadn’t yet turned in their portfolio, the student was unsure how to respond. “I don’t know. I just haven’t.” Another student laughed nervously, explaining that they were scared of what the final outcome will be. “My mom is so upset. This is supposed to be a really exciting time for my family, but right now they’re just disappointed and worried.” Not only will these students be unable to walk at graduation, but they will have to find a way to fulfill the missing credits needed if they yearn to receive a diploma at all. This can happen to you as well, fellow senior. Poor performance your senior year could result in colleges and scholarships rescinding their offers to you, seeing as they value those who demonstrate the drive to succeed. You can not and will not graduate from high school until you have received the required credits. You must pass all of your classes to receive those credits. Seniors, we are here to tell you that this year has not yet come to a close. Grades are still not finalized. Exams still need to be taken. And your persistence is crucial if you still desire to graduate. Sincerely, The Eye of the Storm
