The East Hamilton Varsity Volleyball team has managed to impress bystanders this season. Winning nearly all of their games, the girls have passed, set, and hit their way straight into state, leading us into an exciting two days of exhilarating game play.
On Tuesday, the girls had many supporters following them to Murfreesboro, the student section packed for their first state game of the year. The team exerted phenomenal attitudes, and student leadership was strong as the girls got their first win against Sullivan South
Later in the day, the girls competed against Portland High, and unfortunately lost after a hard battle, the final third set score 26-28. “They just didn’t make any mistakes,” an East Hamilton parent commented on the opposing team’s skill. “Our girls fought, though. It was a good game.”
On Tuesday the team went into the Murphy’s Center at MTSU to play against Signal Mountain High School. Signal won the first set, and East Hamilton won the second. Nerves were high, and the student section cheered as the two teams fought back and forth.
Signal won the third set, and the girls entered into the fourth with a driven intensity that radiated into the bleachers. After a long fight, Signal won by two points, a final score of 26-28.
While East Hamilton Volleyball would have loved to earn the title “State Champions,” the morale of the team is still high. Captain Taryn Robinson was satisfied with their performance, “I’m happy to play with a team like this. They’re like my little sisters. I love them all. We worked hard.” Next year, the girls are confident that they will continue to succeed, and are fully expecting to step back on the court at state again.
