On Thursday, December 7, the Lady Canes fought an arduous fight against Houston High School. The first period started off with Houston scoring the first point which started a rally of shots. “I knew that they were competition from the first period of the game,” expressed Madison Hayes. First period finally ended with East Hamilton 15 and Houston 14. By halftime hearts were beating, palms sweating, and nerves rattling because the score was tied 28-28. “I wasn’t nervous. I knew we had to come back stronger and eliminate errors,” says Kyana.
When the Lady Canes approached their opponents, the student section roared with the sound “let's go hurricanes let's go!” The third period started off with the lady canes scoring and Houston foulings Hayes. Hayes stepped up to the free throw line and missed the first free throw but made it up by making the second one, giving the canes a three point lead. “My goal is to make it to state with my team, so this game made me want that even more.” The three point lead did not stop Houston because they sent an immediate response with a layup making it a one point difference in the third period.
Finally the lady canes made a huge impact on the scoreboard by passing the ball continuously until there was a open shot for Maleigh Moon to score a three pointer. Making a big eleven point difference. In the fourth quarter lady canes dominated and with Dashia Hughley scoring a layup while getting fouled and Madison Hayes. “Them fouling us really helped because we consistently made free throws which made us ahead,” said Hayes. The final score was 45 to 6, the Lady canes kept their undefeated making it one step closer to state.
